10 Tips For A Cheap Travel

Many of us including myself have always dreamt of traveling to places around the world we love. The number one thing that seems to be holding us back from making this dream a reality is Money. I promised in one of my blog post, to make a post on this topic. After a lot of research I made on this topic, am here to fulfill that promise of mine.
I hope this post helps us all to overcome this major traveling problem. Below are 10 tips for a cheap travel.

Travel off season: Some popular places gets high amount of visitors/tourist during a certain period of the year. Like Hawaii in summer. Due to the much visitors flooding the place, the price of flight, accommodation and other expenses tends to go up during that particular period. You can go there in off-peak time when all travel expenses are cheap and the place is less crowded. By doing this, you may save double of what would have paid during that season.

Pick a destination around home: We all dream of traveling overseas but sadly enough not everyone can afford these trips. If you feel these trips are above your budget, you can check for interesting places close by that are within your budget. Who knows, you may end up having fun in some other place.

Travel Light:  If you want a cheap vacation, you may want to consider reducing the number of bags you intend to travel with because most airlines charge for everything. The more bags you take, the more you are charged. To avoid spending much money on flight, try packing your stuffs in one or two bags per person.

Couchsurfing: This is one of the best ways to save money on accommodation on your vacation. Couchsurfing is a site that helps travelers get accommodation in a country by connecting them with locals who are willing to let them stay in their houses for free when on vacation. It is a great way to save money and you get to make new friends.

Plan your accommodation depending your budget: If you can't afford a 5-star hotel, you can consider going for a cheaper one. What's important is that you get a nice place to lay down your head at night. It doesn't have to be classy, it should just be clean and comfortable. TripAdvisor is an awesome site that helps you to search for hotels in a country. You also get to check their prices and book anyone you like from the site.
If staying in hotels feels expensive, you can stay in hostels which are also very cheap if couchsurfing isn't your thing. You can search for hostels on TripAdvisor in a country.

Work during travel: If you are staying for long period of time on your vacation and looking for a means to save money, why not get a job? It can be an ordinary job like working at bar or restaurant, working on a farm(it may come with free accommodation) or any other job you are opportune to find. It can be a source of earning money while on a vacation. You also get to meet new people and make friends.

Rail passes: Am just hearing about this for first time in my life. From what I gathered, Rail passes covers the cost of train travel in certain areas for a certain period of time.
It is used mostly in Europe. If you are traveling to this part of the world, you should get this passes so you can spend less on train travel around the city.

You may consider taking buses: In some cities, transportation by bus seems to be a lot cheaper than taxis and trains. Taking buses can help you save money on your trip.

Cook your own food: Cooking your own food can be fun since you are doing it in a different place. You get to try new recipes and ingredients  from that place. You get to save the money that you would have spent on eating out. You can also eat out once a while because it won't be fun coming to a place and not trying out their local dish. Some hostels have kitchen which you can make use of and if you are couchsurfing, you can make use of your host's kitchen(you should ask for permission first).
For those staying in hotels, you can look around for local cafes and restaurant where meals are cheap since you may not find a kitchen to use in the hotel.

Shop wisely: Shopping is like a must during vacations. When shopping, it's like we should buy every nice thing we see(what I call the shopping spirit) but as one who is on a budget, you should buy things you feel are important. Limit the numbers of things you buy. Always have in mind that the more things you buy, the more luggage you will have during your flight back and the more you will be charged. Look for shops that offer discount on items. In summary just don't spend TOO much during shopping.
